Two of the three men convicted in the death of Crystal Rogers have filed court documents telling the court they intend to appeal their convictions.

Both Steve Lawson, who was sentenced in August, and Joseph Lawson, who was sentenced earlier this month, have signaled their intent to appeal their convictions. But the appeals process is a marathon, not a sprint, and the timing on this next leg of the judicial journey could take years.

The defendants will likely take different approaches to their appeals. I talked with a Louisville criminal defense attorney who is connected to both cases and has some idea how the Lawsons will frame the appeal.
