One of the detectives federally charged in connection to the death of Breonna Taylor has been ordered to report to prison this week to serve his 33-month sentence.

Brett Hankison was free from custody while his attorneys filed months to appeal is conviction and penalty, but it appears the Bureau of Prisons is not waiting for that process to play out.

Hankison’s attorneys said he received a date of Oct. 9 to report to the Bureau of Prisons. His attorneys asked for a 60 to 90-day extension before requiring him to turn himself him. Writing to the court, “Additional time is necessary to permit this court to rule on the Motion for Bond."

A judge denied that request on Tuesday.

What else is happening in this case?

Two other former Louisville detectives are facing charges for allegedly lying on the warrant application used to access Taylor's home, though the most serious civil rights charges were recently dismissed. A third detective pleaded guilty and has a sentencing hearing set for next year.
