FBI Louisville Special Agent in Charge Olivia Olson spoke to several local media outlets Thursday about the FBI's 2025 Reported Crime in the Nation statistics. "I'm glad that it was something so obvious that you can see in the numbers now because we are working so well together that I know it would be indicative in the numbers once it came out," [she said to WHAS11](https://www.whas11.com/article/news/local/fbi-reports-historic-decrease-violent-crime-kentucky-rates/417-9afb0fb5-a869-48e7-b28b-396e0437bfa2?ref=shayinformed.com). Nationally, violent crime rates decreased 9.7% from 2024 to 2025- marking the largest year-to-year decline in violent crime rates since the FBI began its estimates in 1936. Here in Kentucky, the trend held, though the drop wasn't quite as steep. Violent crime rates in the Commonwealth decreased 6.1% from 2024 to 2025, Olson said.
