Brian Epperson- who is already facing a murder charge- now faces federal drug charges after being indicted on two counts related to fatal methamphetamine overdoses.

The Winchester Police Department announced Friday that Epperson has been indicted by a federal grand jury for knowingly and intentionally distributing methamphetamine that resulted in the overdose deaths of two victims- Reacheal Dawson and Kristen Morris.

Epperson has been in custody and under investigation for months, and this case wasn't simple... investigators told me they have been running tests, collecting and reviewing evidence since July.

"There's a lot of physical evidence, and there's a lot of electronic evidence. Sergeant Reed and the DEA Task Force officer, as well as some others in our staff, have had to comb through hundreds of 1000s of pictures and videos," Winchester Police Chief Travis Thompson said, "I think there's about 20 terabytes of electronic digital media that they've had to comb through."

Chief Thompson explained if it wasn't for Detective Sergeant Matt Reed and his knowledge of a case that was out of their jurisdiction, this entire investigation could have looked different.

"It's very likely that it could have been written up as an overdose, because that's how the scene was. The scene was staged for it to be", Thompson said of the Reacheal Dawson case. "But Sergeant Reed was aware of the Powell County case and Mr. Epperson's involvement in it, which raised a red flag for him, and he took it quite a few steps further, which is a good thing he did, because it snowballed quickly into a major case."

What we know about the victims

According to Chief Thompson, the women named in the federal indictment were in a consensual, romantic relationship with Epperson.
