Clarksville Police Department detectives have made an arrest in a 2013 double murder case. Detectives arrested Carlos Alberto Bonilla-Canenguez after a DNA linked him to the scene.
According to a press release from the department, the suspect has been known to police for more than a decade.
Officers report they responded to a house fire on North Randolph avenue, October of 2013. While firefighters worked to contain the flames, they found two men stabbed to death in the home. At the time, officers collected DNA at the scene and began a search for a third man who lived in the house but was missing.
Now, that man has been identified as Carlos Alberto Bonilla-Canenguez- a Salvadoran national who was arrested in Georgia and was being held at a federal ICE Facility.
During the booking process, his name was flagged, and the Clarksville Police Department was notified of his arrest. Clarksville detectives then collected a DNA sample from the man and it was found to be a match to the 2013 case, according to a press release.
He is now awaiting extradition to Indiana and facing two counts of murder.
Detectives said, "with the rapid advancements in modern technology, no case is every truly cold."
