I’m partnering with WLKY, Louisville’s top-rated TV station, on a monthly segment called “Special Assignment with Shay McAlister.”

I have big news! WLKY came to me earlier this year with a question: how can we get your journalism on our station?

At first, I was hesitant because going independent has been an incredible decision for me, and I don't want anything to jeopardize that. After several conversations, I realized this doesn't change my independence or my priorities. I'll be sharing stories that are already 'free' on Shay Informed- putting some of my most important reporting in front of even more people, at no cost to my faithful subscribers.

So, **once a month,** I will be appearing on WLKY to share a story I believe is too important to stay behind a paywall.

Now let me tell you what this means.

**I will always work independently.** Shay Informed is still independent, still ad-free, and still funded by the people who believe in this work. No one at WLKY assigns my stories, edits my reporting, or has any say in what I investigate. I choose the story each month. When I’m on air, I’ll be identified as what I am: independent journalist Shay McAlister. You'll also still find every one of these stories here on shayinformed.com.

**Your subscriber-funded work stays yours.** To my subscribers: I work for you. The deep-dive investigations, Bardstown case updates, and podcasts you make possible are still exclusive to you. WLKY will not have access to them. That is not part of this deal.

So what *will* you see on WLKY? The important stories that are already free on my site. Traditional TV news simply doesn’t have the time to dig into a story the way I do. A newsroom turning a story around in a day or two can’t spend weeks with a family, a stack of records, and a lot of follow-up questions. I can. Some of these stories matter so much they need to reach as many people as possible, and those are the ones I’m taking to TV.

Want an example? The [pediatric brain cancer crisis in Eastern Kentucky](https://www.shayinformed.com/what-kentucky-knew-and-when-inside-the-states-response-to-an-unusual-pattern-of-pediatric-cancer/). The state has confirmed an unusual pattern of children diagnosed with DIPG, one of the hardest childhood cancers there is, and families are asking why it took so long for anyone to respond and what's being done about it now. That reporting is far too important to stay behind a paywall. It’s already free on Shay Informed, and now thousands more Kentuckians are going to see it.

To my subscribers... when I left television in August 2025 and started this, I had no idea if it would work. You signed up. You sent tips. You told your friends. You believed in me when it was just an idea and a website.

Look what happened- a major Louisville TV station saw what you helped build and said, “We want that kind of journalism in front of our audience.” Traditional media is recognizing work made possible only because you believed in it!

If you’re new here because of WLKY, welcome! What you see on TV is a small piece of what I do. Subscribers get my most sought-after stories and a seat at the town halls. [You can sign up now for $4.99/mont](https://www.shayinformed.com/support-us/)h and catch up on everything you've missed while staying on top of the powerful work to come.
