Kentucky State University canceled all classes, exams and activities through the end of the week following a shooting near Whitney M. Young Jr. Hall that left one person dead and another hospitalized.

Frankfort Police confirm both victims are KSU students and the suspect, who is not a student, remains in custody.

"The shooting that took place today at Kentucky State University appears to be an isolated incident - not a mass shooting," Governor Andy Beshear said on social media. "The suspect has been arrested, and there is no ongoing threat."

Assistant Chief Scott Tracy with Frankfort Police said officers arrived within minutes of the 911 call to find campus police had already detained a suspect. Three people total were involved in the incident, including the suspect.

"Our thoughts are with them, their families as well as the entire Kentucky State University community," Tracy said. "We understand how unsettling incidents like this can be. Please know safety for our students and residents remains our top priority."

Multiple agencies responded, including the ATF, Kentucky Homeland Security, and several area police departments.

The university told students they may return home if they choose and said counseling and support services remain available for students, faculty and staff. The school will provide additional guidance as soon as possible.

The investigation is ongoing.
