One of the three men convicted in the death and disappearance of Crystal Rogers is set to be sentenced on Wednesday in Nelson County.

Steve Lawson was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence during a May 2025 trial in Bowling Green. Conspiracy to commit murder comes with a sentence of 10-20 years and tampering with physical evidence comes with a sentence of 1-5 years.

The jury recommended a sentence of 17 years as a penalty for the conviction, but ultimately its the judge who makes the final decision.

Wednesday's hearing will look a lot like a mini-trial. The prosecution will present a case to include aggravating factors, criminal history, details of the convicted crimes. The defense will present mitigating factors, likely requesting a lighter sentence.

The judge could also hear from Crystal Rogers' family and Steve Lawson's family, called to give victim impact statements. Crystal Rogers' daughter and Steve Lawson's mother spoke on their behalf during the penalty phase of the trial.

Based on everything presented, the judge will make the final decision and sentence Lawson to prison time.

Lawson will then be handed over to the state of Kentucky, to be classified into a state level prison.

One more thing to note... Lawson's attorneys have asked the judge to throw out the verdict or grant him a new trial and this will likely be discussed during this hearing as well.
