It was an emotional reunion at the Capitol this week when Kentucky State Trooper Jude Remilien finally got to meet the four people who saved his life.

Back on July 13, Remilien was shot while responding to a call outside Blue Grass Airport. What happened next was something straight out of a movie- but it was real, and it was terrifying.

Jimmy Alexander, Jessica Alexander, Taylor Hall and Adam Arnold were arriving at the airport when they saw the incident unfold. They didn't freeze. They didn't hesitate. They ran straight toward the danger.

"We immediately ran to Trooper Remilien's aid," Jimmy Alexander recalled. Jessica and Taylor, both nurses, jumped into action and did what they do best- they started providing medical care. Soon after, Officer Adam Arnold arrived on scene and pitched in to help.

The rescue was caught on body cam video

"We were all in the right place at the right time," Jimmy said, "and we are so thankful that he is okay."

Governor Andy Beshear and Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman presented all four with the Citation for Meritorious Achievement- the highest honor the Kentucky State Police can give to civilians.

"Today we honor Kentuckians who are heroes in every sense of the word," Coleman said. "Your actions saved a life and renewed hope in humanity for many."

For Trooper Remilien, meeting his rescuers face-to-face was powerful. "It's so great to finally meet this team of heroes," he said. "They didn't hesitate to come on scene and assist me... All four of you will forever hold a special place in my heart."

KSP Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr. put it simply: "Because of them, Trooper Remilien is alive today."

The four lifesavers were also named Team Kentucky All-Stars and commissioned as Kentucky Colonels- the commonwealth's highest honor- back in July.

As for Trooper Remilien? He's recovering well, standing alongside the people who refused to be bystanders when it mattered most.
