It was huge news on Friday in the relationship between the U.S. and Canada, and equally good news for Kentucky's most prized export.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced many of the retaliatory tariffs that were imposed earlier this year have been removed, in hopes of forwarding talks between the two countries in trade negotiations.

One of the many products on a long list on U.S. exports is Kentucky bourbon.

You may remember images like these from earlier this year, when some Canadian liquor stores started pulling U.S. made alcohol from the shelves, replacing the space with signs that read "buy Canadian instead."

At this time, this was a major concern for Kentucky distillers, as Canada was a leading importer of Kentucky-made bourbon before these trade disputes.

Now, the Kentucky Distillers Association is applauding the news releasing a statement which reads:

“We applaud Prime Minister Mark Carney’s decision to restore reciprocal zero-to-zero tariffs for Kentucky Bourbon and many other remaining goods covered under the USMCA. We hope this action will jump start negotiations on a permanent trade deal, benefiting both American businesses and Canadian consumers seeking to enjoy America’s only native spirit.
“We look forward to the day when Canadians can toast the return of Kentucky Bourbon to their provinces and territories, and we thank the leaders of Alberta and Saskatchewan for their earlier decisions to return Kentucky Bourbon and other American alcoholic beverages to their shelves.”

— Eric Gregory, Kentucky Distillers’ Association President

The change will go into effect on Sept. 1, according to NBC News.
