The man accused of shooting and killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, according to Utah Governor Spencer Cox.

"In 33 hours, we have made historic progress for Charlie," FBI Director Kash Patel said during a Friday press conference.

Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was giving a presentation at Utah Valley University when he was shot in the neck.

Investigators released two pictures of the suspect on Thursday, and then video of him jumping off a roof on the Utah Valley University campus before running from campus, into nearby neighborhoods.

Cox said they received 7,000+ tips on the case, but ultimately it was the suspect's own family who provided the needed information to police to find the accused shooter and take him into custody.

The suspect was taken into custody at 10 p.m. local time, according to Patel.

Cox also announced he is working with attorneys to get the paperwork ready to pursue the death penalty in this case
