Multiple Denver-area schools are closed on Thursday after the country's latest school shooting hit the community.
Investigators say a boy opened fire with a handgun Wednesday at Evergreen High School near Denver, Colorado, wounding two students, before fatally shooting himself.
The shooter is believed to be a student at the school.
According to KUSA in Denver, the shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Two students were shot and hospitalized. One was released Wednesday evening and the other is still in the hospital, in critical condition.
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jacki Kelley said the school had no school resource officer there at the time of the shooting, but first responders were on scene within minutes.
Hundreds of law enforcement officers from across the Denver metro area responded to help. Kelley said they formed multiple teams, and after the initial chaos, they cleared the school room by room.
