A Delta flight out of Louisville made a quick turnaround Sunday morning after the pilot reported a mechanical issue shortly after takeoff- and passengers on board say they knew something was wrong before the announcement came.

Delta Flight 2801, bound for Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, took off from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport just before 11:30 a.m. Sunday, when the pilot noticed a problem and turned the plane around.

One passenger described the moment things felt off. "We heard loud shaking noises on the runway during takeoff, and then the pilot announced there was a problem and we're heading back to Louisville," he said.

The aircraft, which had 101 people on board including passengers and crew, landed safely on the East Runway- Runway 35R- with emergency responders waiting on the tarmac as a precaution. The cause turned out to be something relatively straightforward: a flat tire.

"After landing safely, we learned it was a flat tire on the plane," the passenger said.

According to a spokesperson for Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, the East Runway was closed from approximately 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. while crews relocated the aircraft from the runway to the terminal ramp and conducted an airfield inspection. The airport said operations were only minimally impacted, with four flights diverting to other airports during that window.

No injuries were reported.
