The Commonwealth is asking for the trial date in the Nick Houck perjury case to be pushed back, according to a motion filed in Nelson Circuit Court.

Houck, a former Bardstown police officer, has been fighting a perjury charge tied to his role in the long-running Crystal Rogers case. His trial had been set for November 9th.

In the new filing, Commonwealth Attorney Ryan Williamson notifies the court it will bring a motion for new trial dates before Judge Charles C. Simms on Wednesday, September 16th, at 2:30 p.m. The stated reason is straightforward: one of the Commonwealth's key witnesses will be traveling out of the country and won't be available to testify on the trial date currently on the books.

The motion doesn't name the witness or specify where they're traveling, and it's not yet clear how far back prosecutors want to move the trial or whether the defense will object.
