Nick Houck heads back to court Thursday- and this time, he has a lawyer
The last time Nick Houck walked into a Nelson County courtroom, he didn't have an attorney- and he told the judge he had "no idea" why he'd been charged. Thursday morning, that changes, at least in part.
I'll be in the courthouse, and when I walk out, paid subscribers will be the first to hear what happened. My full post-court analysis- and any interviews I'm able to secure- will go to paid subscribers first, before anything else is published.

Nick Houck is due back before Judge Charles Simms at 9 a.m. for a hearing Thursday that could move several pieces of this perjury case forward at once. Attorney Michael Ferguson, whose office is based right in Bardstown, filed his entry of appearance as Houck's attorney six days after the chaotic arraignment where Houck showed up alone, pleaded not guilty, and left a courtroom full of questions.
The primary item on the docket is a motion filed by Commonwealth's Attorney Kyle Williamson to amend the indictment- specifically, to correct the dates listed in Count 1. According to court records, the Commonwealth is asking the court to change the offense window to reflect that the alleged perjury occurred between July 15, 2015 and August 16, 2023. The motion describes it as correcting a clerical error to align with what the prosecuting witness told the grand jury.
Those dates are worth sitting with for a moment. July 15, 2015 is right around the time Crystal Rogers disappeared. August 2023 corresponds to a later official proceeding. Perjury cases are built on precision- what was said, when, and under what oath- so getting those dates right in the charging document isn't a footnote. It's foundational.
Beyond the amendment, Thursday's hearing could surface questions about bond conditions, the state of evidence and discovery, and what the overall timeline for this case looks like going forward. With Ferguson now officially on record, expect the defense to start staking out its position more clearly than Houck was able to do on his own last month.
For those just catching up: Nick Houck, the brother of convicted murderer Brooks Houck, was arrested and charged with first-degree perjury in June- stemming from a statement he gave while under oath.
Sherry Ballard- Crystal Rogers' mom- confirmed the charge is is connection to comments Nick Houck made during the investigation into her missing daughter.
Crystal Rogers vanished in July 2015. Her body has never been found.
The hearing is set for 9 a.m. in Nelson Circuit Court. I'll be there.

Don't forget- paid subscribers will be the first to hear what happened. My full post-court analysis- and any interviews I'm able to secure- will go to paid subscribers first, before anything else is published.
