Louisville is getting a piece of the Olympic spotlight.
Governor Andy Beshear, along with city leaders and Olympic champions of the past, made it official today- the KFC Yum! Center will host the 2028 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team Trials, bringing one of the most-watched events in American sports directly to Kentucky's largest city.

The timing is significant. The 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles will be the first Summer Games held on U.S. soil in more than 30 years. And for Kentucky, the gymnastics trials will mark another first- it will be the first time the Olympic rings have ever been displayed in the state.
Governor Beshear was in Louisville to make the announcement and didn't shy away from the economic pitch that comes with landing an event like this.
"This is a major win for this city and our entire commonwealth and we worked hard to make it happen," he said. "In 2028, the tourism dollars spent here, as well as media coverage, will make a big impact."
That economic impact is expected to ripple well beyond the Yum! Center floor. Hotels, restaurants and local businesses across Louisville- and throughout the state- stand to benefit as gymnastics fans travel in for the trials, which typically draw massive crowds and significant national media attention.
"Our New Kentucky Home is beating record after record," Beshear added, "and this is yet another step into the future."
The trials are expected to determine which athletes will represent the United States in artistic gymnastics when the LA Games open in the summer of 2028.
